Junior News January 2012
Well done to the Under 8
and Under 9 Team which won the "Joe McGrath Invitational Tournament"
which was held in Douglas before Christmas.
The Carrigaline team of Paul Harding, Philip Dorney, Danny Kelly,
Mathias Kampus and Mikolai Kolodziejczyk overcame teams from Ballinlough
and Douglas Lawn to capture the Trophy.
All games were played in a very sporting and fun manner.
The Wilson Cup
and KBS Cup teams also had matches recently, playing Bishopstown
and Whitechurch respectively. Unfortunately both teams were second best
on the day, with the Wilson Cup team particularly having some closed
matches with Bishopstown.
Matchplay
In the New Year more emphasis will be put on Matchplay, trying to
encourage the kids to take part in more club arranged matchplay outside
of their coaching. Currently Eoin runs matchplay on Wednesday evenings
and occasional, more age specific matchplay on Saturday evenings.
Junior Club Hooded tops
are now available, details on this website.
Looking forward to seeing you all in the New Year, coaching returns week
of January 9th, with times as before unless otherwise advised.
Winter Matchplays
Well done to our Juniors
who played in the recent Cork Regional Under14 Matchplay's held in
Sundays Well Tennis Club recently. These matchplays are a great way to
gain match experience and play kids from different clubs.
Notable results were:
Matthew Scallen Cotter - Finished 6th
Sophie O'Sullivan - Finish 7th, and qualified for the Provincial
Matchplays.
Wilson Cup

Carrigaline played their first match last week against Rushbrooke, and
unfortunately despite good tennis played all round, the tie resulted in

Our aim going forward is
to keep parents more informed as to what is going on with the Juniors in
our club and also what is going on in other clubs with regards to Opens
and Matchplays.
Friendly Matches
We have recently played two friendly matches. The first friendly was
played with Rathbarry/Ardfield. We had nearly twenty of our full
courters playing on a sunny day in late August. Our kids had very
enjoyable matches and came out on top against the visitors. We are
looking forward to welcoming Ardfield back next year for a return visit.
Earlier this month eight
of our Under 12's and Under 14's played a friendly in Ballinlough Tennis
Club. Again, our kids played some very competitive matches with the
final result being a tie at 6 matches a piece.
Under 8 Matchplay in
Douglas LTC
Douglas Lawn Tennis Club recently held an Open Matchplay for Under8's.
Seven of our Under 8's took part, great to see the interest in an event
held outside the club.
Going Forward
In the coming weeks we hope to start organising more Matchplays and
Blitzs for our kids in the club. We will keep you informed about any
updates. If you have any suggestions on the running of the Junior
Section of the club, please let us know. Alternatively, if you would
like to volunteer to help with the Juniors feel free to let us know.
